I've had this mortar and pestle set for just over a month, and I've used it a couple of times a week to grind spices.
So far, it's holding up well. I wash it by hand, and my only concern would be the place where the wooden handle attaches to the ceramic end of the pestle -- I'm not sure how that would hold up in the dishwasher, so I'm giving this item only 4 stars.
I've had a couple of other mortar and pestle variations in the past, and this one is one of the better ones. Pinzon quality can be rather hit-or-miss, but this item seems to be in the "good" category. It's attractive and functional -- and I can't really ask for more.

This mortar and pestle set comes out way ahead of my other set made of marble. It has higher sides, finer "grinding lines" on the bottom & the lines extend halfway up the sides of the bowl, and the pestle handle is wooden, which I like much better than marble. I ground cinnamon bark in it, and, whereas it took a long time to do, it did a very good and thorough job of it. I also ground coriander seed, which was done surprisingly quickly and very well. Clean up is very quick -- use a brush to get between the lines inside the bowl.
I'm very happy with this sturdy and attractive mortar and pestle, and I believe it will be the last one I buy.

This mortar and pestle is a quality product in every way. The look of the product is such that it will fit in with every kitchen's decor. And the construction of the two pieces is top-notch. Both pieces are very solidly made and I am certain they will hold up to many years of use. I have used this mortar and pestle to grind up spices for my own Montreal steak seasoning/rub, my own garam masala, and my own pesto. All three came out with great results. One tip is to use a little bit of kosher salt when grinding up spices. It helps the grinding process go a little quicker. This is a nice product and I recommend it highly to anyone who grinds their own spices or makes pesto, even if it's just occasionally. Much, much easier to clean than a food processor!

I have always wanted a mortar and pestle set but have never found exactly what I was looking for until now. This is larger than most so you aren't limited to its use but not so large it's heavy or unwieldly, it has a pour spout which can really come in handy and the handle is smooth wood and very comfortable to use. The set is very attractive to a welcome addition to my kitchen. I know I will get many years of work from this set and it will be a joy to use.

This mortar and pestle is a good size for grinding whole spices, nuts, garlic and herbs. The working capacity is 8 oz and has a well defined spout to make pouring easy. The interior of the mortar is not ribbed but has a rough unglazed surface that helps keep whole spices from flying out and creates the friction needed to quickly grind ingredients. The bottom of the mortar is glazed so you don't have to worry about it scratching your counter top and is dishwasher safe. The pestle also has a rough unglazed surface with a very comfortable wood handle that I find easier to grip and is much less slippery than the shorter narrow glazed handles that most porcelain mortar and pestles have. Because of the wood the pestle is hand wash only. My only concern with the handle is how the glue joint between the wood and porcelain will hold up long term.
