From the title, one can see that my only complaint was the cheap handles that came with the stockpot but the tri-ply cooking bottom is well worth the price - it is definitely the thickest thing I've ever felt on the bottom of any cookware I've used and seen, so points for that.
Regarding the handles: I could have easily ripped them off if I wanted to, but I didn't want to hurt it anymore than I should.
Overall, a decent stockpot that should hold up overtime.

My Mom really needed one of these due to her getting a new glass top stove and the one she had for many many years warped!!! So happy!!

I bought this pot for cooking gumbo thinking that a heavy pot would prevent sticking but this pot cooks no better than a much cheaper pot from the discount store. I wish I had never purchased it.

I have this stockpot and love it. I've had mine for almost 4 years and in the beginning I would use it, clean it and put it under the kitchen cabinet to await the next use. However, I found myself digging through all the stored pots/pans and juggling them all around time and again just to reach THIS one that I now just sit it on the top of the frig for easy access all the time.
It is tall and sturdy, all 3 handles stay cool to the touch even after simmering homemade tomato sauce for hours and hours. The lid, while it doesn't snap into place or anything, does sit nicely in the top of the stockpot and has a well made, easy to grip handle, even if one is wearing a baking mitt or holding a pot holder. Enough room between all handles, lid and pot, for a man to get fingers through handles without burning knuckles on hot pot. I find the lid does not 'spit' when boiling or simmering foods which is a big PLUS in my book. I hate the mess sputtering and spitting makes all over the stove, backdrop and counters when cooking up a storm. One doesn't need the extra mess to clean up after a day of cooking.
The extra tri-ply base is AMAZING. Foods cook evenly without hot spots and I don't need to use the higher settings on the stove any more just to bring something to a boil and then lower the heat to a simmer. Lower settings get the job done just as well with this magic base. I love it so much I am hunting for the best deal on a second one. The first one was a gift I requested for Christmas 4 years ago (not this particular pot but I needed a tall, narrow stockpot with good-sized capacity for making my soups, stews, sauces, etc., when I don't want to use my crock pots and when the garden decides to blossom all at once as it is doing now)!
This pot cleans up like a dream. I've never had to 'scour' it because no matter what I've cooked, simple soap/water/sponge and towel-dry makes this pot sparkle like new every time. I don't have a dishwasher (and never did) so I needed a large pot that would also fit in my double sink with the crazy low faucet (DRAT! I hate this kitchen sink!) for thorough cleaning and also fit on the back of the stove. (Electric coils are one large/one small both front and back). The design of the stove does not allow a taller pot/pan to use the back coils because the knobs are situated on a section that juts out from the back - only shorter pots/pans fit back there. And with 7 tall dogs all congregating in the kitchen (like children) when I'm cooking, I hesitate to put anything on the front burners for safety reasons. Cold noses, long whickers & inquisitive loonnngggg tongues can too easily reach the sides of the pots/pans or the hot coils should their common sense & manners momentarily desert them and they turn into... well, DOGS!
So, this is the pot for me. I am a bit cautious based on the previous review stating this is not the same pot as years ago. I don't know about that because I've only had mine for a few years. I've returned to the outlet store near Cape Cod where it was originally purchased for me by a dear friend to find the same item, but the entire mall is now high-rise condo buildings!!! The brand site does offer this same pot for about 20 cents more, but I can't get free s&h which is approx. $13), so it appears that Amazon has come through for me once again!
Once received, if stockpot differs in quality, etc., from the one I now have, I'll return to update my review. Otherwise, happy cooking, all!
Sept 9, 2009---ok-so I'm waiting a bit. Hubby decided he wanted to 'shop around' so I'm just biding my time before I order from Amazon. So far, he's been to Sears, Macy's, Wal-Mart, K-Mart and a kitchen outlet store in Vermont (we're in Mass.!!). Got a feeling he's thinking Christmas gift surprise even if it costs more, so I'm pretending I forgot all about it (but we ALL know I haven't!!). I'm going crazy with the garden finally surrendering its goodies with only the one pot. That was fine the last few years, but this year we enlarged the garden to 4 times its previous lifestyle and I'm getting clobbered with stuff I need to cook & can/freeze. AAACCCKKKKK! Someone, please, put a firecracker under my hubby to either find this pot or admit defeat!!!! :)
Edit: 12-26-09 Merry Christmas to me! Hubby admitted defeat (but not to me). Secretly asked my brother to purchase the pot on HIS Amazon account so hubby could suprise me with it on Christmas Day!! Lovin' that man more every day - but not as much as my new pot!
