What a disappointment!!! Due to poor packaging where the pots were rubbing against each other, 3 out out of four pans were scratched in transit. This was a birthday and anniversary gift for a special someone, and she was so disappointed she almost burst into tears. For expensive cookware to be so shoddily shipped is an outrage! Walmart would have done a better job of shipping. Amazon should talk with Berndes about their packaging. Would have ordered a replacement, but the packaging was so poor that it seemed unlikely that a new package would arrive in any better shape.



Of course, other than schlepping the large package to the UPS store, the return was fairly painless, one of the great things about shopping at Amazon.

I've been a Berndes lover. I have not seen them sold in the stores for some reason. I got my first set of Berndes eight years ago and the coating just started to come off a little bit. They heat up evenly and are very durable. I like non-stick pots and pans but most of them are cheaply made. If you like non-stick professional pots and pans this is the one to go for. I have been using the new sets of pots. They are really great.

These kitchen pots are heavier than most; difficult for older citizens to lift and safely move on stove top. Exceptionally well made. One piece arrived with defective lid knob which was quickly and politely replaced. Slow to heat but retains temperature well. Fry pan does not brown well. Easy to clean!

I purchased this set to replace an old set of knives that were ready to go to the great cutlery drawer in the sky. This was my first experience with Chicago Cutlery, but certainly not my last. The set comes with a sturdy wood block to keep the knives standing upright and all together.



The knives are full tang, meaning the metal goes from tip to hilt, riveted down for a steady feel. These knives are super sharp, and a few times I almost cut myself, being so used to my dull set.



The handles are wooden, so don't leave them sitting in a sink full of water, I'm sure that will affect the tightness of the rivets over time. (Manufacturer suggests to hand wash only) These knives are great for any chore, but really slice through thick beef smoothly. I find myself reaching for them to also cut through crusty bread and veggies because the sharpness gives me a clean cut. A great set, at a great price.

I don't care what anyone says, for the money, these are great knives. If you don't take care of them and wash them properly then the can rust, but so do many, many of the other top brand knives. But, these aren't top brand or professional, they are great everyday, fancy yourself-a-chef knives. Expect, what to expect. If you want professional grade knives... Fork out the green and buy some. These knives are great for the price and the target market. I would recommend them to any of my friends, and explain how to take care of them, and I have no doubt that they will last for a long time to come.

I wanted a set of nice cookware and decided to start with this set. It was a present to me for accomplishing a major goal. I choose the copper core line from All Clad because of the lip (which isn't on their other lines, except for the new d5 at Williams Sonoma), and because of the copper - which may or may not contribute significantly to the cookware's wonderful properties - I don't know. I'm not expert enough to judge that. I haven't cooked on a lot of other cookware, so I can't give you a side-by-side comparison. All I can tell you is that I've had it for over a year now and I love the copper core from All Clad.



Some people have an aversion to sets, which I understand. Sets often contain items you might not otherwise buy and may not use much at all. But I picked out this set because it had items that I did want and do use. So for me, this set was a good deal. (My set contains a 2qt saucepan, a 3qt saute pan, an 8qt stockpot - all with lids, plus a 10in skillet.) I have since purchased other cookware from this line a la carte. I also purchased it on ebay for significantly less than I've seen it here or in stores.



Cleaning is pretty easy if you are cooking correctly with it. Once I did cook on a little too high a temperature in the skillet and caused a pretty fair mess for myself. But Bar Keepers Friend Cookware Cleanser & Polish (available at some grocery stores, and places like Target) and some elbow grease got it clean. I watch my temperature control better now and have had a very easy time with clean-up ever since. I don't bother polishing the copper band - that doesn't bother me.



Now that the new d5 line is out, I'd say I might rethink this choice if I were buying it all again today, as I think the d5 is less expensive, plus it has the lip. But, I have most of what I need already, and love it, so I will very happily keep it.

I bought the all-copper huge 16 inch pan with wedding money and was so excited to use it after all the reviews but it's terrible. I just gave it one more try and I realized what a waste of money it was. I followed all of the directions, used medium to low heat, and didn't use salt. The inside is totally discolored after cooking and scrubbing the hell out of it. When you cook you will use lots more oil because it all kind of pools to the outside 2 inches of the pan and the food absorbs all of it! This sucks and I'm going to try and return it to Bloomingdales tomorrow. Don't buy it!

Over the years I have used a variety of cookware--aluminum bottomed stainless Revere Ware, Magnalite Professional, Calphalon, Calphalon Professional NonStick. When I finally had to throw out the last of my tattered collection, I started to look for some stainless cookware that would stand the test of time and offer performance to boot. I decided to splurge on this All-Clad Copper Core.



One of the pieces I recieved was this 1 1/2 Quart saucepan. What a workhorse this one is! Rice to soup to lentils to barely to country gravy, it gets used! The most used of all my Copper Core is this little pot!



Delighted to report that I am THRILLED with this expensive splurge! All-Clad is NOT about expensive hype and status, those these pans are beautifully made, instead they do everything cookware should, and have literally changed the way I cook. Having attended CIA and worked as a professional chef for a few years, I know the golden rule for food not sticking: preheat pan, add oil, let oil heat for 5-10 seconds, then add food. Using these guidelines with the Copper Core, nothing sticks! And I mean for some things, like omelets or fried eggs in the 10" frypan, the performance is as good as my brand new Calphalon NonStick was; when you can just slide omelets and fried eggs out of the pan without ANY sticking at all, why would you ever need Nonstick or Teflon based products?!



However, these pans are also superbly capable of developing a fond on the pan bottom for deglazing and subsequent sauces; in fact I have had them give every last bit of the fond up when deglazed, almost cleaning the pan for me! That's the best thing about them--they do everything right. I am not sure if it's All-Clad propriety stainless "recipe" or what, but these pans are so amazing to be able to function on all levels from eggs sliding out with ZILCH sticking to chicken [...] sticking just enough to develop rich fond for complete deglazing, to the light and glazy fond from sauteed onions and garlic for developing a richer risotto when deglazed with wine.



Mind you, this is partly about knowing some basic cooking principles, and these pans might not act so obligingly in non experienced hands, because when I read about people commenting on how everything sticks in their All-Clad stainless interior, I know it isn't All-Clad's fault, believe me!



I have found the copper core very responsive and quick to adjust to temperature. Perhaps not as great as true copper pot and pans, but noticeably better than aluminum cores (Stainless line) or anodized aluminum (Magnalite Pro/Calphalon). These pans heat up and boil water faster than anything I have ever used, aside from true copper cookware, and when turning the heat down, or removing from burner, they also cool incredibly quickly. It's nice to have semi-copper performance with the ease of stainless steel clean-up. And this cookware does clean-up quickly and easily, particularly when using Barkeepers Friend. I use plastic and wooden utensils (no metal) and they still look almost brand new after several months.



The copper band however does tarnish and discolor just as much and just as fast as a true copper pot or pan, so if you are fanatic, you will need to polish the tarnish away fairly often (at least every other week). However this is barely noticeable for us real world users, and Barkeepers friend does a good job of semi-polishing the copper (but it won't gleam).



I know, I know, they are SO expensive. But honestly, if you know how to cook or want to learn with responsive cookware, I honestly feel this is a great investment. I am wholeheartedly thrilled that I made it and cannot recommend highly enough.

This relatively heavy stainless cookware is functional and a good value for the price, with fairly tight-fitting lids and aluminum discs bonded to the pans' bottoms to assure better heat distribution. Because of the thickness of the aluminum disc, this set works better and heats more evenly than the otherwise similar copper-clad Revere cookware, where the bottom of the pans is very thin metal despite the cosmetic copper coating. And as a previous reviewer noted, the durability and cleanability of steel can't be beat. However, even this set has some small problems that mean it does not work as well as heavier, better-quality, more expensive cookware: for starters, the pans' rolled rims can collect spilled liquids and be hard to clean. Also, the aluminum discs stop quite a bit short of the pans' bottom edges, so using the pots on a gas stove can be tricky -- if the flame is too high, the perimeter of the pan can be hot enough to burn food before the center of the pan is even very warm. Heating gently with a lower flame can help prevent accidentally burned food.

I've had this set of pans for ten years now, and they have served me well. In fact, they are still just as good as new. Before that, I used non-stick pans but never again. They just begin to flake, and you have to be so careful about the utensils you use. I regularly use the 10 inch skillet to make scrambled eggs in, with virtually no sticking. You just let the pan get hot before pouring in the eggs and use a good stainless steel spatula. The customer service has been excellent with these pans. After about nine years, one of the lid pulls came off and customer service sent out a new one--no problem. These pans are also very durable and easy to clean. I have been known to burn things and after one mishap, my husband said, "you might as well throw the pan away. You are never going to get that clean." I just used a little steel wool and it was as good as new. You can't do that with non-stick. If you are just starting out, on a limited budget, and want a good set of pans that will last you quite some time, this is the set to buy.

I have been using my original set of five Revere cookware pans for over thirty years. They heat evenly for the most delicate bechamel sauce, frying, etc., plus clean up after a few burned-on accidents. While some of them look less than shiny, all have held up over the years. I had my eye on some fancy new cookware last year and started watching the Food Network on TV to see what the professionals use...imagine that...the un-shiniest, bent, burned-on old pans turned out the most ingenious creations! That got me thinking, it's not the pan but the chef that makes the biggest difference, so I decided to KEEP what worked. Then, I bought this very set of new ones just to have extra since the family has grown, and we expect to use them for at least another thirty years.

I have been using Berndes cookware since the day I bought my first piece at a sale my local hardware store was having. They had one of the traditions 9 1/2 fry pan with lid for practically nothing. I took it home and was blown away by the quality and durability of this little pan. I then looked on the web and discovered they were of reasonably high value. I ordered a few more pieces from Amazon and eventually threw out all of my Calphalon and other cookware. I have my family and friends in the process of converting to Berndes also (one skillet as a Christmas gift is all it takes).

You simply are not going to find better cookware in this price range.

Don't waste money on Calphalon, W.Puck, Pampered Chef, or any other cookware in the High-end consumer range. Just buy Berndes and be happy.

This was one of the Gold Box REAL Deals that looked so good and was the "Right Price" so I snatched it up. My son and his wife need a good cookware set in place of their yard sale bit and piece set they had settled for. I was planning to surprise them with this new shiny set for Christmas ( as well as other stuff, too). My order came so fast I did not have time to remember on what day I had ordered it. I was expecting a good heavy Stainless steel set, a set that would not warp on the bottom, I just hate those cheap pots and pans that spin or wobble on the eye of the stove. Guess what, I received exactly what I ordered in a very light weight box, I mean I have an iron skillet that weighs more than this whole set including the box and all the packaging. Guess the price was too good to be true.

SAVE your money, go to WalMart pick up a set there cheaper than what I paid here, better yet do like the kids did and pick up really good pieces at yard, estate or Divorce sales. They might not match, but they will cook much better and evenly than this imported set of imitation cookware. Besides who really cares if one pot is red or stainless as long as the tops fit!!
