Note: I believe that Mary Anne Dable's review is misplaced because this particular item is Le Creuset's SMALL utensil holder, not the LARGE one.
The biggest complaint about the Le Creuset utensil holders (if you read all the reviews from different colored ones, for their Large and Small ones) is that they are either too big or too small. So I will give my feedback on that so that you can decide which is the perfect size for you.
Le Creuset's large utensil holder (not this one, but on Amazon) is for the "constant cook," as it will comfortably hold about 20 large utensils. If you have the average "occasional cook's" selection of a few spatulas, spoons, and slotted spoon, then the large utensil holder will be TOO large and all of your items will slant annoyingly to one side. But if you are like me and cook all the time and have tons of spoons etc, then the large size is awesome! P.S. If this is too big for you, fortunately almost every other utensil holder in the world is smaller than this one, and will probably suit your needs perfectly :)
Le Creuset's small utensil holder (this one) is only for short utensils. It is not going to be tall enough to hold regular stirring spoons, spatulas, slotted spoons, tongs, etc without looking extremely silly and probably falling out. However, it is perfect for utensils that are approximately half that height. It holds my garlic press, melon baller, pizza cutter, basting brush, can opener, thermometer, mini frosting knife, swivel peeler, pie server, brownie server, and fluted pastry wheel at just the right height. It holds about 12 of these "small" utensils and stands at about 2/3 the height of the large utensil holder, also with a smaller diameter.
I got both in Red and they sit side by side on my counter. They freed up 1.5 drawers of space and I like how handy they are to grab things out of.
Best luck in finding the right utensil holder for you!

Hoped it was smaller. Wanted it as a large lidless butter crock--too big. Use it to hold spread knives and baby spoons.

This is the largest crock for Utensils I could find. The measurement was about 7" x 7". It holds ALL my utensils, and has a great deal more room for others.
