This pan combo works exactly as described and is so easy to use. The individual cups are perfect to remove eggs as they finish, but beware of the steam vent holes and don't burn your fingers (hint turn the cup handles to the outside when you start). The pan can also be used without the insert so it is dual purpose. Sturdy enough for home use and the clear lid makes watching the eggs easy. I choose to hand wash mine but it is dishwasher safe.

This pan reminds me of the somewhat flimsy items you can find in supermarkets -- bright and shiny but not built last. The handle has no heft, and the egg cups and frame seem unlikely to last for long. I suppose that's the best you can get for $30 these days. However, after trying the cute little silicone egg poachers also available at Amazon, I was much happier with the egg-cooking experience using this pan. The eggs cooked evenly and there was no difficulty with water boiling up over the sides of the cups, as is the case with the silcone versions.



Update -- one week later: I pulled one of the egg cups out of the dishwasher and watched the little handle/knob bounce away. The screw holding it had come loose during the wash cycle. Being smaller than the screen at the bottom of my machine, the screw must have disappeared down the drain. So, now I have to make the time to visit the hardware store to see if I can find a replacement. What a nuisance! I'm dropping my rating from 3 down to 2 stars for this.

I bought this pan about a month ago.

Cons: It's a little smaller than my previous 10-inch skillet, because it angles in toward the base. The surface isn't completely flat; there is an odd shallow bump that makes it look like a second but doesn't interfere with the pan's use at all.

Pros: It fits my existing 10-inch lids just fine, no need to buy a special lid. Excellent heat distribution -- amazing. The heavy bottom holds heat really well. Great pan.

FINALLY cooked the perfect egg in the 8 inch skillet after much experimenting with oils and temperatures. I preheated the electric at medium, placed the pan on burner, added egg and turned the heat down to low (3) setting. I used butter this time, but the temperature, rather than the fat, seems to be the key. I made a fried egg with broken yolk (by choice, not accident)and was able to slide the egg around entire cooking time including after flipping it to cook both sides. Egg slid out of pan onto plate and NO egg residue or particles remained in the skillet.



I have not cooked anything but eggs to this point at the lower temperature, but would guess using a lower than normal heat will yield good results with other foods. I am glad that I did not give up and go back to teflon !

Great buy. I love Farberware. Just spray with non-stick and it comes pretty clean or use a little baking soda when cleaning it and you can get it clean out really well. I prefer these than non-stick since the non-stick coating wears off (into your food) eventually and that worries me.

My daughter had put on her Christmas gift request list that she needed skillets. I already had 2 Farberware frying pans, so decided to buy her the same 2 I had. I had a Farberware frying pan before, but the handle came loose after 20 years of wear and tear. I have dealt with Teflon coatings before, and I really prefer stainless steel. The coating comes off, and doesn't work like it should. Even though the directions say not to use brillo or sos, I still do, and the pans still shine, and hold up in the dishwasher, and I expect them to last for years. The frying pans might be shinier if I never used brillo or sos, but what the heck, it is a frying pan. I expect mine to last me the rest of my life, but my daughter might have to replace hers 20 years down the road. I also liked the fact that I could buy one or two pieces without buying a whole set. Reverware is also very good quality, but I found it difficult to find individual pieces.

I've tried other egg poachers, but none of them are as good as this. It is well made, sturdy and gives perfect results every time I use it ...which is often. I purchased the Nordic Non-stick 10" egg poacher. A huge mistake, it began losing the non-stick coating after the first use. It became unusable after using it a few times. The eggs cooked unevenly and stuck to the surface even when I used Pam spray or butter. Get this product instead and you will be pleased. I hope this helps.

As devotees of poached eggs, we have tried a number of poachers. This is the best ever. We use a bit of sprayed oil and have never had trouble with with sticking eggs or clean up. The egg holding tray is up a bit higher above the bottom of the pan than most poachers, which we like. While we were not especially interested in having to buy a whole pan, etc., in this case, we are very glad we did! Enjoy!

I've had this pan just over 3 months and have only used it a few times. Already the finish is coming off the bottom of the skillet. It is coated with a very thin layer of nonstick coating, which is not durable at all and not high quality. I have always washed it by hand, not in the dishwasher, so it hasn't been exposed to harsh conditions, other than boiling water on the stovetop. Other than that, the poachers work well, don't stick, and so far are not starting to peel.

This is a very nice product. The only complaint is that the cups that hold the eggs are molded into the pan. Our last poacher had removable cups with a little tab-like handle. This made it much easier to remove the eggs.

This is a really nice pan for the money. Not too terribly heavy, although I always think a pan should have some weight to it or else it's probably cheap and won't last. I've had it for about a month now and just love it. Use it several times a week, and there is no problem with the non-stick coating so far. I wish it had come with a lid, but you can always pick up a 12" lid, so that's not a huge deal. I highly recommend this pan!

Lodge Logic 12-Inch Pre-Seasoned SkilletI love this skillet.. I've never gotten any new pots and pans before, so finaly decided to start getting a new one every 2/3 months to replace the old ones. I was appalled at the poor quality of these cast iron skillets. The workmanship is of the lowest quality; the handles are too small and there are burrs on them. The skillets look like something that came from a dollar store. They are NOTHING like a good, solid, trusty Lodge skillet. In fact I'm so suspicious of the too-black weird color, I suspect that they were painted. If this is paint - and I suspect it is - then how do I know there isn't lead in it?? I don't trust them since they were made in China and smell odd when heated. Rather than endanger my family (who knows what is on/in these skillets?) they're going in the TRASH! I've read other reviewers saying they'd sell theirs but I don't think it fair to expose anyone to this very-likely unsafe cookware.

I bought this cast iron set in part to avoid using Teflon and other mystery coatings. However, the skillets in this set are covered thoroughly with a dark gray coating, so you could not get to the cast iron part. There is no information in the included pamphlet on what the coating is made of or the country of the skillet's origin.



Before purchasing, I thought the coating could be easily removed if necessary. Not so - even a wire brush does not seem to scratch it much. This is very different from a Farberware cast iron skillet I have - it also came pre-seasoned, but there was no problem removing the factory seasoning and applying my own.



Also, the handles are too small and inconvenient.



In short, I would not buy those skillets again or recommend them to anyone.
